Delano, Minnesota, is commemorating its 150th anniversary with a unique artistic initiative: a community mural project that invites residents of all ages to contribute to a large-scale mosaic mural. Spearheaded by local artist LeAnna Wurzer, this endeavor aims to capture the essence of Delano’s rich history and vibrant community spirit.
Community Participation
Throughout the year, community members are encouraged to paint individual 3″x3″ canvases, each featuring a design curated by Wurzer. These individual pieces will collectively form a one-of-a-kind mural, symbolizing the unity and creativity of Delano’s residents. The project is inclusive, welcoming participants of all skill levels to drop in during scheduled sessions and contribute to this collaborative artwork.
Unveiling and Permanent Display
The completed mural is set to be unveiled at the Annual Community Art Show in October 2026. Following the unveiling, it will be permanently displayed in the Delano Public Library, serving as a lasting testament to the community’s artistic talents and collaborative spirit.
Funding and Support
This program is made possible with Arts & Cultural Heritage Funds from Minnesota’s Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment, reflecting the state’s commitment to supporting local arts and cultural initiatives.
For more information on how to participate in this project, residents are encouraged to visit the Delano Public Library or check the city’s official calendar for upcoming painting sessions.
