Maple Grove’s Thriving Sports Scene: A Community United by Athletics

Maple Grove, Minnesota, boasts a dynamic sports culture that unites the community through various athletic programs and achievements. From high school triumphs to community-driven initiatives, the city’s commitment to sports is evident across all levels.

High School Athletics: A Legacy of Excellence

Maple Grove Senior High School, home of the Crimson, has established itself as a powerhouse in Minnesota high school sports. The school offers a wide array of athletic programs, including soccer, football, hockey, and more. Notably, the Crimson football team clinched their first-ever Class 5A state championship title in 2022, finishing the season undefeated at 13–0. This victory was a testament to the team’s dedication and the community’s unwavering support.

In 2024, the Crimson football team continued their impressive performance by securing another Class 5A state championship title, defeating Minnetonka 28-21. This back-to-back success underscores the program’s commitment to excellence and the strong foundation built by the coaching staff and players.

Community Sports: Fostering Youth Development

Beyond high school athletics, Maple Grove offers numerous opportunities for youth engagement in sports. The Maplebrook Soccer Club, established in 1987, is a community-owned organization dedicated to fostering the physical, mental, and emotional growth of young athletes through soccer. The club provides a comprehensive player pathway, from recreational programs in partnership with the City of Maple Grove to competitive teams participating in the Twin Cities Soccer League and National Premier League.

The Maple Grove Sports Dome, a 92,000-square-foot, climate-controlled facility, serves as a hub for year-round athletic activities. Operated by the City of Maple Grove, the dome offers a full-size synthetic turf field that can be divided to accommodate various sports, including soccer matches, practices, and training sessions. This facility ensures that athletes have access to quality training environments regardless of the season.

Adaptive Sports: Inclusive Opportunities

Inclusivity is a cornerstone of Maple Grove’s sports culture. The Osseo Area Schools, including Maple Grove Senior High, offer adaptive sports programs for students with disabilities. These programs provide opportunities to participate in soccer, floor hockey, bowling, and softball. In the fall of 2025, the adaptive floor hockey team achieved a significant milestone by winning the state tournament, highlighting the community’s commitment to providing athletic opportunities for all students.

Looking Ahead: Continued Growth and Success

As Maple Grove continues to invest in its athletic programs and facilities, the future looks bright for the city’s sports scene. The community’s dedication to fostering talent, promoting inclusivity, and celebrating achievements ensures that sports will remain a unifying and integral part of Maple Grove’s identity.

Whether it’s cheering for the Crimson on game day, participating in community leagues, or supporting adaptive sports programs, Maple Grove’s residents exemplify the spirit of teamwork and perseverance that defines the city’s vibrant sports culture.
